John Stundon, ran a grocery and pub here from at least 1886 to 1901. When he completed his family’s census form in 1901 he stated that he could “Read & Wright”.
In 1938, it was the home of the Ryan family. In September that year, Martin “Matty” Ryan died, aged only seventeen. He was the son of the Alderman Jack Ryan was a well known haulage contractor. Matty played football with the Dalcassian and Shannon Clubs. An excellent musician, he played a selection of Irish airs on the accordion to fellow patients in Barrington’s Hospital only days before his death.
